Saving a screenshot on Windows is a straightforward process. Here's how you can do it from Windows 7 to the latest versions:

Windows 7 and 8:

  1. Using Print Screen (PrtScn):

    • Press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard. This captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard.
    • To save the screenshot as an image file, open an image editing program such as Paint.
    • Press "Ctrl + V" to paste the screenshot from the clipboard into the program.
    • You can now save the screenshot as an image file (e.g., JPG, PNG) by clicking "File" > "Save As" and choosing the desired format and location.

  2. Using Snipping Tool:

    • Open the Snipping Tool by searching for it in the Start menu.
    • Click on "New" and select the area of the screen you want to capture.
    • After selecting the area, the Snipping Tool window will display the screenshot.
    • Click on "File" > "Save As" to save the screenshot as an image file.

Windows 10 and 11:

  1. Using Print Screen (PrtScn):

    • Press the "Print Screen" key on your keyboard. This captures the entire screen and copies it to the clipboard.
    • To save the screenshot as an image file, open an image editing program or any application where you can paste images (e.g., Paint, Word, PowerPoint).

  2. Using Snip & Sketch (Windows 10) or Snip & Sketch / Snipping Tool (Windows 11):

    • Open the Snip & Sketch app (Windows 10) or Snip & Sketch / Snipping Tool (Windows 11) by searching for it in the Start menu.
    • Click on "New" or the respective capture option to select the area of the screen you want to capture.
    • After selecting the area, the app will display the screenshot.
    • Click on "File" > "Save As" to save the screenshot as an image file.

For both versions, you can also use the shortcut "Windows key + Shift + S" to take a screenshot of a selected area of the screen directly to the clipboard, which you can then paste into an application and save as needed.
